Make-Do Planter from a Thrifty Find

Make Do Flower / Veggie Planter

.
This is a Thrift Store find.  I made a planter out of this discarded Ice Cream bucket.  Nothing came with the bucket except the handle.  So I decided to make it into a planter.  Last year I put in this tomato plant.  It was fun having it on the front porch.  It did quite well too.  I had to water it often, but it did well.
.
This year I have planted flowers in it and they are struggling right now, it has been extremely hot and the planters are not getting enough water.  My bad.  I just have been too 'heat related lazy' to go out and drag a hose around during the heat of the day.
 .
And then in the early morning when it is cool, I have not gone out because I am still trying to avoid mosquitos.  I am pretty allergic to mosquitos and don't want to get any bites, but hate putting on bug repellant, so I try to avoid the bugs.

  1. Love that make-do planter! If we can all learn to stop limiting our thinking to the original use of an item, we should be able to adapt lots of things to new uses. My in-laws also recycled their old ice cream churn into a planter. It's handy, and reminds them of many hours of family toil that led to a family treat--the hand-cranked ice cream churn.

    Thanks for participating!

  2. Great idea! We had a ice-cream maker go out on us this summer and I kept the bucket. MY husband asked me what I was going to do with it and I said,"I'll find inspirtion somewhere". Thanks!

When I find a cup of water that one of the kids has left around the house, I open the front door and pour the contents on one of the planters. Through out the day they all get watered and I don't have to go outside. :-)

  3. You are so very creative!! Don't worry - our plants look awful. Seems like 106 degrees doesn't do much for our tomato plants. I love to go to the thrift store - I just haven't made time to do it lately. Thanks for sharing a fun make-do idea!
