My Aloha Friday for April 24th

Dishes, Dishes Who Does the Dishes?

Now that we answered how we like to do the dishes, I am curious as to who does the dishes in your home.

My Hubby does more than his fair share of loading the dishwasher.  He has always been really good at that.  I love him for the help he gives me on this account.  I get the kids involved as much as I can, but I lost my magic 'doing the dishes' wand and can't seem to get them moving in that department as much.

They do help in other areas, so I trade and am usually quite content.  We all have both our favorite chores and natural talents and that means we can negotiate chores, in my humble opinion.

So in my home the dishes are mostly done by Hubby, however, the pots and pans are usually mine.  Go figure.....

So in your home:

My question to you this week is:

Who does the dishes in your Home?

My Aloha Friday for April 17th

Dishes

Growing up we had 8 people living in our home. We did not have a dishwasher or should I say we did not have an automatic dishwasher. We actually had plenty of dishwashers, my dad would always say.

I remember that washing dishes was a real 'chore' for us. We always would complain and cause trouble because we did not want to do such a hard job. Oh, boy, what babies we were!!!

Even when we got an automatic dishwasher we still didn't want to do the dishes. It still took toooooooo long!!!

(one day we timed the emptying and refilling of the dishwasher- less than 10 minutes! unreal..... Emptying usually takes me about 3 minutes these days.)

My children are going through that phase, "it takes so long, mom. I don't have time." Bunk!!! Angel could have emptied the dishwasher yesterday as she waited for her friend to pick her up. But she wouldn't, because it would take too long. Actually she could have filled it up too before her ride came. I didn't push it. But she is facing consequences today. That is even better for me, anyway.

Now that I am grown up, at least I think I am grown up, I enjoy washing dishes more that I used to. I don't do them by hand often, but as I am washing the non-dishwasher items and large pans, I can think and enjoy time to myself. No One wants to join me in the kitchen for cleanup, so other than the bathroom, cleanup time is a chance for alone time. LOL......

You don't have to think about what you are doing as you wash, so your thoughts can be totally on something you want to think about. It can be a time of reflection, self study, listening to music or book on tape. This time can effectively be manipulated to what you want your mind focusing on. You shouldn't have very many interruptions either!!

In my practically perfect life, I would like to ban the Dishwasher and begin doing the dishes by hand and assign that chore to me and me alone. Then I can take advantage of the free time it would allow my brain to enjoy!!! I may do this---- someday......... So now I would like to know:

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My question to you this week is:

Do you like to do dishes by hand?
or
Do you prefer to use the dishwasher?

My Aloha Friday for April 10th

Happy Birthday to Pilot!!

So today is the day that my niece is getting married! Woohoo!!

We are so happy for her. So in light of her special day, I thought I would ask a question about anticipation.

Think back to a time when you were excited about something that was coming up, that would be a 'new beginning' for you. For instance- moving out of your family home to be on your own, your wedding day, graduation day, starting a new job, moving to a new city or country, something like that.

My question is:

Is it easy for you to make changes or is it stressful?

Were you sad to leave your 'old' life? Or happy to take your 'old' life's memories with you and make a better 'new' life? Did you fret over doing it right?

I am the type of person that tends to fret. I really want to know the outcome before I try anything. That is not always possible and so then I get stressed. I am not usually a risk taker and I have missed a lot of opportunities in life because of this 'holding back' attitude I possess. But then this is me and not everyone can be bold and daring. The world would be a totally different place if we were all the same.

I am not always wanting to stay put, but taking on a change is not always easy for me. When I was heading off to Norway for 18 months, I was both excited and scared. "What if I did not do my best?", "What if I can't learn the language?", a lot of what if's came into play. But I was not going to stay home, I was just very uncomfortable with having to go without knowing the outcome.

I went and had a wonderful time! I have found that I am having an easier time with some changes as I grow older- big changes that is. My own changes that is. My own challenges. But I still would rather have it easy and not go off into the unknown.

Life is full of unknowns and I will never have my wish of 'knowing', it just isn't going to be in this life. But I will survive!

Now, how well do you adjust to changes?

Thanks for answering. Take care and have a great week!!

My Aloha Friday for April 3rd

I was posting to Kid Friendly Friday about using Conversation Cards to get to know your family and friends better, and I thought I would pick a card for my question here.  So this is what I picked. What State** or Country were you born in? and Do you still live in the same State or Country?
**please note:  you do not have to put the city, and if you don't want to share this information- identity theft precautions, I understand.  This is just interesting to me.  But please give me a Howdy anyway- OK?  Thanks.

So here is my answer.

  • I was Born in Salt Lake City, Utah.
  • I still live in Utah but exactly 32 miles from where I grew up.  A new city and a new county.  But I love it.
To let you know a bit more about me-

My parents moved from their house in Salt Lake City after living there for 40 years or so, just 10 years ago.  It was a hard move for all of us- such memories.  Then the house was torn down for office buildings- that was hardest.

I lived many places as a single. After I got married, we first made our married home in Salt Lake City.  Now we are in our 5th location and 3rd city.  But we are still only 30 minutes from my old 'homestead'-that is now office complexes and totally unrecognizable!  My kids only have photos to see what it was like.  It was awesome where I grew up!  It was probably awesome where you grew up too.  Isn't it our memories that make our growing up homes awesome?!

I love other states.  I have traveled to many and feel as though I could live anywhere, as long as I have my family near or access to technology to connect to my family.  But Utah is my home right now and I am comfortable with that.

I do want an Island in the warm Pacific or Atlantic, but again that is another post.

Thanks for stopping by today.  Have a great week!!!

My Aloha Friday - March 27

I have got the gardening bug soooooooooo bad!!! It happens to me at this time every year.
This year we had a couple of weeks of
wonderful spring "perfect for starting the garden" weather.
But........
it ended a week ago. And I am sure glad that I did not act on my impulsion and plant!
(See, I have learned something over these last few (49) years!!!)

We have had snow and cold for about a good week now. It would have been perfect for planting the peas and other cool crops, but they are not on my priority list. My tomatoes, green peppers and squash are. So I did not get the cool seeds in the ground.
Yet.
Maybe this year....... still have time ....... possibly will do it.......

They (the cool crop seed) would have been happy with the nice wet snows melt to get them started, at least that is what I have read. I have never done early spring planting (yet), I have no excuse for not doing it, I just never seem to get it done. I get all excited about gardening and then the weather doesn't cooperate or it is way too early and when it is time, I have moved on to other busy things. Do I have some kind of a disorder??? Maybe I need to look into that(disorders)!!! LOL!!!

I can't wait to have toms growing. I want some fresh squash too. I need some new potatoes! Most of the items below, we have personally grown. But I have a few new things I want to try and I am sure they will belong on this list for next year, thus I am just going to put them on anyway. There are other seeds packets ready for planting, but I am not going to list everything now. Just know that I hope and pray that we will have a productive and tasty garden this year.

Sharinskishe

(The following two photos are from last year!)

So, my list of favorite planters are:
  • Tomatoes
  • Squash, both winter and summer, includes pumpkins
  • Melons, any kind- I have done plenty over the years
  • Potatoes, we are going to try Sweet Potatoes also this year
  • Green Peppers
  • Green Onions and Garlic
  • Broccoli, also will be new this year
Soooooooooooooooooooo.....

or

And now.....................

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My question to you this week is:

Do you have or are you planning a garden?

If So.........

What is your favorite thing to grow?

My Aloha Friday # 4 - March 20

My sisters, my parents and myself went to a beautiful place called Cascade Springs in the Wasatch Mountains in Utah.
Walking down the trail, we came upon this tree with a most unusual knot.  Both my mom and myself stopped to admire it.

It is things like this in nature that get my attention.  I see beauty in lots of places.

I consider it 'stopping to smell the roses'.  This is a good thing, but I sometimes forget to 'stop and smell the roses' around me at home and in my own little family.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My question this week is:

Do you take the time to 'stop and smell the Roses' of your life?
