Here are two of my math problems that I understand one moment and then don't understand the next. I hate it when my brain farts!
a. If 60 gm of 1% hydrocortisone is mixed with 80 gm of 2.5% of hydrocortisone, what is the % of hydrocortisone in final mixture?
a. 2.2 % w/w
b. 1.85 % w/w
c. 0.25 % w/w
d. 1.75 % w/w
b. How much of atropine is required to prepare 240cc in such way that when 1 teaspoonful of the solution is diluted to 1 pint gives 1 in 500 solution?
a. 2.25 gm
b. 46.08 gm
c. 35.15 gm
d. 25.35 gm
ANSWERS:
a.(b) Amount of Hydrocortisone in 60 gm, 1%
= 60/100 = 0.6 gm of hydrocortisone.
Amount of hydrocortisone in 80 gm, 2.5%
= 80 x 2.5/100 = 2 gm hydrocortisone
% amount of hydrocortisone in final mixture
= 100 x 2.6 (2gm + 0.6gm)/140 (80gm + 60gm)
= 1.85% w/w.
b. (b) To solve this kind of problem, we must first find out the amount of drug present in final solution.
Amount of atropine in 1 pint, 1 in 500 soln .
= 480 x 1 /500= 0.96 gm of atropine.
Now, 0.96 gm of drug must be present in 1 teaspoonful of drug solution, therefore we can say
5cc (1 teaspoonful) contains 0.96 gm
240cc solution requires ?
= 240 x 0.96/5 = 46.08 gm of atropine.

DIY - What I did this past week:
I love my happy face beads. They are cute, colorful and invite me to be happy.
(Situation)
I received my final text book for my last college class for my Pharmacy Technician Diploma. This wonderful book is spiral bound, which is really a nice thing.
(Problem)
However, I have been running into problems with the top and bottom holes on my book pages coming off of the spiraling wire. This is aggravating to me and so I had to fix the problem.

(Solution)
So I thought of my smiley faced beads. I threaded them on the wire ends and to my elation, they fit really tight. I doubt they will fall off, but as soon as I find some super glue (it always goes missing at my house) I will double secure the beads on the wire with the glue.
The beads are doing a wonderful job holding the pages on the wire, there is no way that they will come off now. I love it!
Desired solution has been acquired!
No more pages escaping the wire binding!
I am not frustrated with my new book!
I am happy!
and we all know that if momma is happy, then the rest of the family, house, neighborhood, world can be happy as well!!
LOL.....................
Have a great week! Stop by again next week and share your Make-Do's once again for us to enjoy.

Recycled Post
You all know how I love things. Things, all sorts of things.
So I have several containers for my bacon grease. But I finally found the perfect container- it is the honey pot, with a hole or place for the spoon, knife or silicone brush.
So here is my latest jar:
It looks like it might be a jelly, or marmalade container as it is decorated with oranges. I suppose it still could be a honey jar, but now it is my softened butter jar. I usually leave my butter out, as we go thru it quick enough that even in the summer it does not go rancid.
I love using cute jars in my kitchen and I will be on the look out for more of these jars with spoon/ utensil holes. That way I won't be finding knives and spoons laying on the counter or building up in the sink. Works for me.
(I guess you can tell that I love butter- just look at me- I am a butterball mommy!! I also keep my food storage close by.......... actually I only keep my personal food storage, it is stored in my fat cells! I doubt I will ever starve to death.)

HAPPY EASTER !!
These are my favorite desserts for Easter. My Mom made these in years past. This year we are having homemade Sweet-n-Sour and Aunt Della's Cookies. Yum!!
This week I have been busy doing my final term projects and studying for finals. Tuesday and Wednesday are my final tests. We already took two last week and I feel pretty good about them.
I also have a dress-up mock interview on Wednesday, as it is the final day of my Career Development class.
It is going to be a busy week. But I am finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. After this term ends, I have only one class and my externship to do. So really my diploma program is winding down. Hurray!!!
Angel has been busy reorganizing and cleaning our home. She has really caught the cleaning bug. She is driving me crazy! It's a good thing, but it's also frustrating because what I want to keep, she wants to toss. And I don't want what she has decided to keep! We are really from different cookie cutters, my daughter and I!!!
Sooooooooooooooooo................

Make-Do Monday - March 29 - Tong Holder
So amid my midterms, homework and term projects,
my blog decided to have a breakdown!
It does seem to be working now.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Thanks to everyone who tested it for me and left feedback.
Now On To Business...............

I am making do this week by trying to use all the little specks of time I can find!
I have a couple of tests this week and stacks of homework to do. This is the last busy, busy homework term- at least I am hoping it is. Next term I have my review class that will help prepare me for the National Pharmacy Technician Certificate Exam. And then 180 hours of extern-ship at an actual pharmacy learning the ropes with hands on experience. That should be awesome!!
Can I say recycle?
I did and I do a bit of recycling. Even if I only use something for a couple of days or even during one meal.
Let me explain..............
So this past week, we purchased an already roasted chicken for dinner one night. Then on Saturday, I stuck the rest of the bird, (meat and carcass) in the crock pot with some chicken broth and water and green chili's to make broth for chicken enchilada soup.
It only took a couple of hours, or did it? I wasn't really watching it cook. When I was ready to start dinner, it was ready for me. So I took the meat off the bones and cut it smallish and tossed it in the simmering broth. I like to use scissors to dice, cut and chop in the kitchen and since the meat was hot, I also used a pair of tongs.
Tongs are messy and even with a lock, they tend to spring open when I least expect them too. They like to fling droplets and bits here and there. They are very helpful, but can also be a hindrance. But I love, love, love tongs. Almost as much as I love my kitchen scissors. And lots of other kitchen tools. So because they can be unruly, I put them in a place they couldn't spring out of..........
Take a LOOK:
They fit perfectly!! Yes, this is a short handled pair, and they are so convenient! This particular can had a pull top lid and so the top is very rigid. The tongs are not top heavy and there was no tipping of the can. Just an awesome place to put the tongs out of the way as I worked with them. They weren't taking up a whole lot of space, their footprint was small and doable.
The only thing that would make this better would be to put a cute cover on the can and maybe glue a plastic lid on the bottom to prevent the can from rusting that awful round rust rings cans tend to leave behind if they are not taken care of. Even placing a round flat rock in the bottom would keep it upright when I toss the scissors in. They are a little top heavy.
In any case, this fix can be for an hour, an evening, a couple of days or a long term solution for the giant tong footprint condenser.
Oh, the enchilada soup was a success. Easy peasy too.
Chicken broth from carcass
1 can chicken broth
water
leftover chicken meat
about a 1/4 cup of green taco sauce from Del Taco
1 can diced green chili's
12 or so ounces of enchilada (red) sauce (I used the left over half of an 28 oz can)
1 can nacho cheese soup - 10.5 oz
I think this is all I added this time. I have put a bit of sour cream, velveeta cheese, onions and green peppers in other batches. This was more simple and it still tasted awesome to us. Making do with what we had on hand.
My kids like soup and I don't ever have it enough. I think it would be great to have a crockpot always going with some kind of soup in it. Then when the hunger bug hits, there would always be something warm (during the winter) to make our tummys happy.
